Sgraffito
Sgraffito
1. Print out a design and trace it onto tracing paper
2. Roll out a slab of B-Clay
3. Pick out a plate size that works well with your design and measure your clay to fit the plate
4. Place your tracing paper with your design onto the clay and re-trace your lines using a pencil or a pen
5. Make sure your traced lines are clear and paint the whole plate three times with the black paint
6. Wait until the paint is completely dry and begin to carve at the black paint on or around your lines making sure that you are using your picture as a reference for what to scratch out
7. Once your plate is 50% black and 50% white, dip your plate in clear glaze to finish it off
In order to make a successful scraffito, you must:
- Have your plate be 50% white and 50% black
- Wait till your plate is dry to start scratching out the black paint
- Make your plate as similar as possible to your printed design
- Be patient when making your scraffito

Inspiration
My inspiration for this project was a gymnast on a beam. I choose this because I am a gymnast and I have been doing gymnastics for awhile. Also, beam is my favorite event, which is why I choose to make the gymnast on a beam.
